What AirFloor is

AirFloor is a free, open-source, static website. It estimates floor-level air health for locations in India. It runs entirely in your browser. There is no backend, no sign-up, no payments, and no ads.

It is an independent environmental information tool, not medical advice. If air quality affects your health, please talk to a doctor.

What we do not collect

Nothing. In plain terms:

What stays on your device

A few small things live only in your own browser, on your own device:

None of this ever leaves your device, and we never see it.

Where your searches go

To show you results, your browser sends your search query or coordinates directly to a small set of third-party open data services. The request goes straight from you to them. AirFloor never receives, stores, or logs anything, because it has no backend sitting in between.

Service What your browser sends it Why
Photon (komoot) Your place search text Finds places using OpenStreetMap data. Hosted in Germany.
Open-Meteo Coordinates of the chosen place Returns elevation, live air quality, and weather from open data.
zippopotam.us A PIN code Looks up Indian PIN codes. India-only endpoint.
ipapi.co Your IP address Gives a rough location from your IP, only as a fallback when device location is unavailable, and only to start the search near you.

One thing worth being clear about: like every web request, these calls also carry basic technical details, such as your IP address and browser headers. That is how the internet works, not something AirFloor adds. Each of these services processes the requests your browser sends it under its own privacy policy.

How this site is served

AirFloor is a set of static files. A web host delivers those files to your browser, and like any website host it may keep routine technical logs, such as visitor IP addresses, to serve pages and guard against abuse. Those logs sit with the host and are governed by the host's own privacy policy. AirFloor adds nothing on top of the hosting: no analytics, no tracking scripts, no cookies.

Your location

If you tap "current location", your browser asks for permission first. If you allow it, your coordinates are used once, inside your browser, to find the nearest area. They are never stored, and they are never sent to us, because there is no AirFloor backend to send them to. If you decline, the site simply falls back to the approximate IP-based location described above, or you can just type a place name.

India only

AirFloor is built for India and is restricted to locations inside India by design. Searches for places outside India will not return results.

Your rights and the DPDP Act, 2023

India's Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 gives people rights over their personal data. This policy is written to align with the spirit of that law, and with the principle of data minimisation behind it: the best way to protect data is not to collect it in the first place. Because AirFloor does not collect or process personal data on any system it controls, the duties the Act places on data fiduciaries largely do not arise here.

In practice, that means there is nothing for us to hand over, correct, or delete. The only data that exists, your recent searches and language choice, sits on your device under your control, and you can erase it yourself at any time. If you want to raise a request about the queries your browser sent to one of the third-party services listed above, that request would go to the service itself, and its own policy explains how it handles them.

Changes

If anything about how AirFloor works changes, this page will be updated and the date at the top will move. Since the whole project is open source, every change is also visible in the public code history.

Contact

Questions or concerns are welcome. Please open an issue on the project's public GitHub repository. That is the best and only channel, and it keeps the conversation open for everyone. Just keep in mind that GitHub issues are public, and GitHub handles anything you post there under its own privacy policy.
